Reggae Rhythms Rule the Box Office: Bob Marley Soars, While "Madame Web" Struggles

Good vibes and infectious melodies propelled "Bob Marley: One Love" to a strong box office debut, raking in a projected $44 million over six days.

The music biopic, fueled by a record-breaking $14 million opening Wednesday, captured hearts and wallets despite facing steep competition. Meanwhile, Sony/Marvel's superhero flick "Madame Web" failed to impress critics and audiences alike, with early estimates predicting a lackluster $22 million opening.

Marley's magic: Director Reinaldo Marcus Green's film resonated with audiences across demographics, earning a solid four-star rating from under-12 viewers and their parents. While ticket sales dipped 73% from its opening day, the strong midweek performance suggests "One Love" will continue to jam out at the box office.

"Madame Web" tangled in its web: Critics haven't been kind to the superhero origin story, leaving it with a meager two-star rating on PostTrak. Despite featuring Imax and PLF screenings, the film is estimated to attract a predominantly male audience (53%) and struggle to capture the broader public's imagination.

Other contenders: Apple TV+'s "Argylle" is projected to finish third with a four-day total of $5 million, while Illumination's animated hit "Migration" continues its impressive run, aiming for a similar haul. Warner Bros.' "Wonka" also shows no signs of slowing down, adding $4.5 million to its already impressive $211 million total.

Overall, the box office presents a fascinating battle between established franchises and fresh faces. While "Bob Marley: One Love" proves music has the power to move mountains, "Madame Web" serves as a reminder that even superhero films need more than just spectacle to win over audiences.
