J.Lo's "This Is Me...Now" explores heartbreak and self-love, featuring a touching homage to her romance with Ben Affleck.
Jennifer Lopez takes a personal journey in her new film "This Is Me...Now," a fictionalized exploration of love, loss, and ultimately, self-discovery. The movie, which accompanies her new album of the same name, follows a character navigating heartbreak and bad relationships before finding empowerment.
A tearful nod to a shared love story: In a poignant scene, the film features the 1973 classic "The Way We Were," a movie with special significance for Lopez and her husband, Ben Affleck. "That's one of mine and Ben's favorite movies," Lopez reveals. "We watched it 20 years ago, and I actually showed it to him when we were together back then." The film's themes of past love, separation, and eventual reconciliation resonate with their own real-life story.
More than just a movie reference: Beyond its connection to Affleck, "The Way We Were" holds personal meaning for Lopez. "I'm a huge Barbra Streisand fan," she says, "and my mother loved this movie too. It has a lot of significance for me."
Not the only cinematic tribute: The film also features a homage to the iconic "Singin' in the Rain," showcasing Lopez's love for musicals and her early dance background. "I always wanted to do something in the rain," she shares. "This scene started as an idea to dance with a hummingbird in the rain, and it evolved into something reminiscent of 'Singin' in the Rain.'"
A culmination of artistic expression: "This Is Me...Now" marks a unique project for Lopez, allowing her to blend various aspects of her career and personal life. "Everything I've ever done is in here," she says. "It's the most personal project I've ever created, using everything about myself, both personally and professionally."
